When Men in Power Take Advantage of Women

For years, the men of the military have used their strength and abused Kashmir's vulnerable women. Major Leetul Gogoi was spotted with a young girl–a student of class 10 at a Srinagar hotel this week.  A can of worms has been opened. And in 1991 the situation of Kunan-Poshpora re-emerged. For years, Kashmiris have voiced their outrage, but the government has turned its back on deafness. The Special Power Rule of the Armed Forces (AFSPA) authorises the Army to do what it wants. They got caught up again and again, including threatening and harassing innocent people.

The victims were hinjewadi call girls in colleges, college students and young women. We were made to feel insecure and vulnerable. Allegations against men in power are prolific and severe–the Kathua rape case, the case took a communal turn; Unnao rape case, whereby the main accused is an MLA; Jharkhand case where the rape victim was set alight; RK Pachauri caught in a sexual harassment case; Tarun Tejpal of Tehelka magazine and the Supreme Court Judge Asok Kumar Ganguly.

Do you have to be afraid of something more?

Dear PM, Death is the only Gang Rape Justice. Why is Rape a national crisis not proclaimed in India?

Regrettably, men's actions are shameful. Actually, you feel that it's your right. In seats of power, they become sexual predators. They also have the ability to serve the public, through the agencies and authority themselves. Such powerful men stop rapes and sexual harassment and even speak openly about their actions. We are cynical and speak of conspiracies to build conflicts amongst cultures. You have no conscience, you are greedy. We view women for their sexual pleasure as simply objects.

The women are secretly and publicly shamed. The offenders sit back and search for their next target. Their victims adhere to their basic criteria of poor, helpless, male, loving, financial assistance and low status or no social position.

The men know that poor women can not tolerate their success since they can be silent with some attacks. It's the disgusting truth and much of the patriarchal culture of India, where the sexual misconduct is treated like a fly sitting on a piece of cake where women are viewed as commodities for use and the law has no merit.
