The Lyric As a Concept

A lyric is a short poem that tries to express emotion using words and other non-verbal symbols. The term is derived from the Middle French word lyrique. It is also the name of a small stringed instrument, usually played while singing. There are a number of notable paroles musique , including Bob Dylan and Elvis Presley.

Lyrics can be written in many forms, including the spoken word, song and lyrics. For example, a song might be composed of a single lyricist, or a number of verses. However, the most successful songs are ones that combine the best of both worlds, a memorable melody and a well crafted lyric.

The lyric as a concept is a little more complex than just putting words to paper, but the songwriter's creativity is what makes the difference. Typical examples include the "Rule Britannia" and "Jerusalem" hymns, which were set to music. Various other musical genres also have their own set of lyricists. This explains the profusion of lyrics for popular songs.
