Initially built in the 9th century, the Kavaledurga Fortis a historical monument that is located about 18 km from Thirthahalli in the Shimoga district of the state of Karnataka.One of the popular temples here is the Shikhareshwara Temple, which has a sanctum sanctorum, a garbagriha and an entrance porch. The palace site within the fort has ornate basement of a large terraced structure. Currently, the fort is controlled by the Archaeological Survey of India.
